Research and Development

The Center does its own research and development of innovations to educational problems such as IMPACT, Madrasah materials development project, alternative delivery modes, new models of learner assessment, and other R&D projects.

Major R &D Projects
  • Project TEEP-Madrasah Materials Development in Support of DepEd Order No. 51, s. 2004

This is a materials development project with an overall goal of developing support teaching and learning materials in five learning areas as prescribed in a Curriculum Framework for the Standard Curriculum under DepEd Order No. 51, s. 2004. The learning materials include textbooks, skills books and teacher’s manuals in Islamic Values, Arabic Language, and Islamic Studies (Seerah and Hadith, Aqeedah and Fiqh, and Qur’an) from Grades 1 to 6. The learning materials in the five areas mentioned above are based on a Curriculum Framework, an earlier output of Muslim scholars, experts on Islamic Studies, curriculum developers, and other stakeholders conducted in a Workshop in Cotabato City, and was further revised and refined in a modified DACUM Workshops under this Project.  The project is expected to end in September 2006.

  • e-IMPACT (Enhanced Instructional Management by Parents, Community and Teachers) Learning System

The IMPACT (Instructional Management by Parents, Community and Teachers) System was developed in the ‘70’s with funding from the International Development Research Center (IDRC). The system heavily relies on self-learning modules based on the curriculum of the Department of Education. As basic education curriculum changed over time, these learning materials likewise were revised. The latest revision was done starting October 2004 to align these materials to the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) of the Department of Education. The materials were likewise enhanced with other multimedia components such as audio and video supplements and self-learning modules on computer education, thus, the learning system was renamed e-IMPACT because of these technology-based enhancements.  The system is currently being piloted in six (6) schools all over the country, one in the Luzon area, three in the Bicol Region, one in Central Visayas, and one in Region 9, Mindanao.

IMPACT in Zamboanga and ARMM. This project, being funded by USAID EQuALLS-CAII aimed to pilot the IMPACT Learning System in schools in Mindanao with predominantly Muslim learners. Before the actual pilot, the learning modules were first submitted to a review and revision process to make the learning modules more relevant, appropriate and sensitive to Muslim learners. Three schools were identified, two in Zamboanga City, Region 9 and one in Basilan, ARMM. School heads and staff of these three schools were provided several trainings on the implementation of the learning system and the schools were given financial, technical and material support during the pilot of the system. The Project started last November 2005 and is about to conclude project activities. Remaining activities would be the monitoring and evaluation component of the project.

  • COMPETE 3

The Project COMPETE 3 aims to convert the outputs under COMPETE 2, which are the Internet-enhanced COMPETE Modules (Competency-Based Continuing Education Programme for Teachers Utilizing Distance Education Technologies and Materials) into a full masteral course for teachers, still using the same format of delivery.Activities so far conducted under this project are the DACUM workshop to identify missing competencies needed for the course to qualify for a full masteral course, and the writing of modules.
