INTEL TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION FORUM

Hundreds of secondary school heads gathered together in an advocacy forum to discuss issues and concerns surrounding the integration of information and communications technology (ICT) in classroom teaching.

The principals play a crucial role in the successful implementation of a project by Intel Philippines which plans to integrate the use of technology tools to facilitate teaching and learning, specifically in Science and Math subjects, in secondary schools nationwide.

Dubbed “Managing the Environment for Technology Integration,” the two-day forum involved principals of recipient-schools under the PCs for Public Schools Project (PCPSP) and whose teachers were trained under the Intel Teach to the Future Program.

The forum participants were divided into four batches to enable close and intensive interaction among them. Also involved were education specialists from the Bureau of Secondary Education (BSE) of the Department of Education (DepEd) and regional IT coordinators.

Intel introduced the Intel Teach to the Future Program, which is a worldwide effort to help both experienced teachers and pre-service teachers integrate technology in teaching and enhance student learning. In the Philippines, more than 35,000 teachers have received extensive training in the effective use of technology in the classroom.

The school principals’ administrative support and commitment are needed to assure the Program’s success and the continuing support and interest of stakeholders.

The forum built mainly on the ideas and shared experiences of the participants themselves. Basic presentations were provided to give the principals knowledge of the context for technology integration in schools.

The forum focused on the principals’ role in the optimal use of technology in their schools for better learning outcomes. Similarly, it served as a means to inform the principals of the importance of their support for the continuous implementation and eventual integration of the Intel Teach to the Future Program.

Intel Philippines tied up with the Department of Education (DepEd), and sought the assistance of SEAMEO INNOTECH for the successful holding of the national forum for school heads.
