MANAGEMENT OF PRIMARY SCHOOLS
ANOTHER
TRAINING COURSE designed for Bangladeshi educators
dealt with effective management of primary schools
and took place from October 28 to November 23, 2003.
Similar with the study missions, the said training
was geared towards upgrading the competencies of the
participants, particularly in improving the management
of primary schools in Bangladesh so that they can
provide high-quality educational services to their
primary school students.
The participants were acquainted with education practices
not only in the Philippines but also in other Southeast
Asian countries to identify strategies applicable
in Bangladeshi setting. The focus was on the components
of an effective primary school, the policy-making
and program planning in primary education, the pre-service
and in-service training of primary school teachers,
and the authentic assessment of pupil performance,
among others.
Most of the methodologies applied were lecture-discussions
cum reflections, cooperative learning, seminar-workshops
and action planning. They also conducted structured
visits to rural and urban primary schools were participants
had a chance to interact with school principals and
teachers.
At the end of the training, the participants presented
re-entry plans to ensure the multiplier effect of
the training program and guarantee the improvement
in the quality of primary education in Bangladesh.
The re-entry plans detailed which of the concepts
and strategies that they learned from the training
will be applied and tried out in Bangladesh.
