LEARNTECH eXCELS Update: Learning Materials Development Workshop

A SMALL GROUP OF MODULE WRITERS WAS GATHERED for the orientation on the learning materials development process of the LEARNTECH project. The five-day workshop, held on September 20-24, 2004 at SEAMEO INNOTECH, produced module outlines for a learning course in “Leading Curricular and Instructional Processes” identified in the Competency Framework for Southeast Asia School Heads.

During the workshop, the module writers were familiarized with the learning materials to be developed, including the list of module titles available and how the materials will be used. Under LEARNTECH project, self-instructional materials will not just be in print with video and audio supplements, but will be in CDs and posted online, too.

Each of the eight module writers was given learning materials to develop and work on. Prior to this, they were given orientation regarding the guidelines for the development of the learning modules. They were informed of the format to be adopted and the learning strategies that must be incorporated in the modules.

The module writers included education specialists mostly from the Philippine Normal University, one of the country’s best in terms of teacher education. They were Dr. Leticia Catris, director of the Center for Educational Technology and Distance Education; Dr. Priscilla Dizon and Prof. Theresa San Buenaventura from the College of Arts and Social Science; Dr. Rosita Isabel Mendoza from the College of Education; Associate Professor Rita Ruscoe; and part-time Professor Mr. Eusebio San Diego.

Also present were Dr. Loyd Brendan P. Novella from De La Salle University-Manila; and Mr. Timothy Tuason, a freelance instructional design specialist.

Former INNOTECH Center director, Dr. Minda S. Sutaria was on hand during the workshop as content and instructional design editor.
