LEARNTECH
eXCELS Launched in the Philippines
LEARNTECH eXCELS was launched in the Philippines
through the Center's national partner, the Philippine
Normal University last 12 December 2005 at the PNU's
Manila campus. Dr. Jesus A. Ochave, VP for Planning,
Research and Extension, welcomed the project for
its potential in making principals more effective
and efficient, and thus, encouraging competence among
teachers and high performance among students.
Dr. Zenaida T. Domingo, head of SEAMEO INNOTECH's
Business Development Office, was guest speaker during
the event, representing INNOTECH Director Dr. Erlinda
C. Pefianco. Others who graced the occasion were
key officials of the PNU, schools superintendents
and supervisors from municipalities in the National
Capital Region, and officials from the Department
of Education.
The formal launching was signified
by the unveiling of the LEARNTECH eXCELS poster.
Dr. Domingo led the unveiling, assisted by Mr.
Pierangelo B. Alejo, project coordinator of LEARNTECH
eXCELS, and PNU's senior officials—Dr. Ochave,
Dr. Estefania S. de Guzman (VP for Academics),
and Dr. Leticia V. Catris (head of the PNU-CETDE
and national coordinator for LEARNTECH eXCELS).
The event, likewise, served as an opportunity to
introduce the first batch of trainers, referred to
as flexible learning tutors (FLTs). NIne professors
and education specialists from different campuses
of the PNU were selected to participate in a trainer's
training conducted for four days following the formal
launch.
The PNU Center for Educational Technology and Distance
Education organized the event in cooperation with
SEAMEO INNOTECH.
