Dubbed "Instructional Leadership: Chalking
Up Significant Difference in Raising Students' Academic
Performance," the training program sought
to strengthen the instructional leadership skills

to the application and dissemination of leadership
practices in primary schools.
The twenty-three (23) participants, which included
5 from Brunei Darussalam, and 2 each from Cambodia,
Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand,
Vietnam and the Philippines, exchanged information
and insights on their respective country's educational
system and best practices in instructional leadership.
Topics discussed in the training, meanwhile, covered
critical competencies in the area of Leading Instructional
and Curricular Processes for Southeast Asian School
Heads developed by SEAMEO INNOTECH for its LEARNTECH
eXCELS Project.
Structured visits to primary schools in the Philippines
where the participants interacted with fellow school
heads and teachers were also done as part of the
training program. Some of the evenings, likewise,
provided time for structured viewing of selected
edutainment films that depict instructional and educational
leadership. At the end of the training, participants
submitted a written re-entry plan that outlines how
they intend to apply course learnings upon return
to their respective schools.
The training program was made possible through the
SEAMEO Educational Development Fund (SEDF) provided
by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines
as part of its international commitment as a SEAMEO
member.
