SEAMEO
INNOTECH is Now ISO Certified
After months of arduous preparation that involved
the entire staff, SEAMEO INNOTECH was awarded the
ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System certification,
making it one of the very few ISO-certified SEAMEO
Centers.
ISO 9001-2000 is an international standard to guide
organizations in developing their quality management
system to be client-focused and to have a mechanism
for continuous improvement.
The Center's preparation for the ISO audit has brought
about the development of the Center's quality management
program and the continuous development of its personnel
to be more conscious of quality and consistency.
The Center's quality management system is now reflected
in its Quality and Operations manuals. They describe
how the Center addresses the requirements of ISO
9001-2000 and what kind of policies and procedures
are being implemented by the various units.
The Center started the ISO 9001-2000 preparation
in August 2003. Activities were led by a Quality
Management System Committee (QMSC) composed of representatives
from various functional areas of the Center. They
were responsible for developing the quality management
system and monitoring its implementation. From August
through September 2003, employees were briefed on
the ISO 9001-2000 standard and total quality management
principles. The QMSC conducted group discussions
to identify the processes needed for a quality management
system that meets the ISO requirements. Around 70
processes were documented.
An Internal Quality Audit team composed of employees
was then tasked to assess the level of compliance
of the Center with ISO 9001-2000 requirements. This
was complemented by a thorough Management Review
conducted to assess the Center's readiness to implement
the quality management system.
