SEAMEC
President Visits INNOTECH
H.E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Mihn Hien, Minister of Education
and Training of Vietnam and current SEAMEO Council
president, visited SEAMEO INNOTECH on 13 december
2005.
During the visit, the SEAMEC president was acquainted
with INNOTECH's current projects and activities.
Among these projects were Project ELSA (Education
and Livelihood Skills Alliance), Project APEX (Applied
Academics for Excellence), the LEARNTECH Initiative,
and the Materials Development Project for Private
Madaris and Public Schools for Muslims. He was also
presented the first batch of trainees for the Flexible
Learning Tutors under the eXCELS Project, a component
of the LEARNTECH Initiative of the Center that aims
to provide excellent school leadership in Southeast
Asia.
Representatives from SEAMEO TROPMED Philippines
Regional Center for Public health, and from the Summer
Institute of Linguistics, likewise, presented a report
of their programs and projects.
Dr. Edilberto de Jesus, SEAMEO Secretariat director,
along with delegates from the Ministry of Education
and Training of Vietnam and SEAMEO RETRAC, accompanied
His Excellency during the visit.
The SEAMEC president's brief stay in the Philippines
also included a visit to SEAMEO SEARCA, the Regional
Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture
in the province of Los Baños, Laguna.
The SEAMEO Council is the policy-making body of
SEAMEO and is composed of the Ministries of Education
of member countries. The visits of the Council president
to SEAMEO member countries are integral in the formulation
of polices and in steering the Organization towards
new directions and forging of new collaboration.
