| Title:
|
Values
Education in the SEAMEO Region |
| Issue: |
July
- December 1988 |
| Foreword: |
This
issue of the INNOTECH Journal focuses on values
education in the Southeast Asian context. Values
education programs of the six Southeast Asian
Ministries of Education Organization (SEAMEO)
member countries are presented: Negara Brunei
Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,
Singapore and Thailand. These papers were presented
by the respective country delegates at the INNOTECH
Regional Seminar on "Values Education in
the SEAMEO Countries: Trends and Prospects"
held on November 18-22, 1985. The general essence
of the program in each country has remained unchanged.
Dr.
John Cleverley considers the case for values education,
and the development of approaches to it, in the
Region. His apper, "Values Education in the
ASEAN Region," provides an overview of the
curriculum, teaching strategies and models of
evaluation used in schools. A framework for considering
values education is also given.
This
particular issue informs the reader, more particularly
the education officials in the Region, on the
viewpoints of teh individual member countries
on the topic and provides them with a broad perspective
of the practice of values education. We hope that
by sharing information on each country's program,
better insights will emerge to bring about better
understanding and appreciation of differences
and commonalities. There is much we can learn
from each other--through sharing. (PGC) |
