As
the world and Southeast Asia shift into a new
world order, new models of education and human
resource development present renewed hope and
exciting opportunities especially for developing
countries. In this issue, the INNOTECH Journal
presents to its readers the Integrative Learning
System model of educational transformation.
Much
like a synthesis of the East and the West, the
Integrative Learning System brings together a
philosophical framework and an instructional and
school model. The issue opens with the lead article
"A Genius in Every Child: The Paradigm Shift
of Integrative Learning in Education and Productivity"
that gives the overview of the theory and its
applications.
In
the succeeding articles, the authors Gardner,
Ingham, and Treffinger provide a new paradigm
for looking at human capacity and the notions
of what is 'normal' and 'gifted'. The premises
of the modem school system are viewed from a different
perspective of human capacity.
Other
articles provide a view of the diversity of applications
of the Integrative Learning System. In mathematics
and in languages, then with applications in Europe
and the United States; a palate of multidisciplinary
and cross-cultural applications are drawn.
We
hope that this edition will intrigue and let you
question your own fundamental assumptions about
education, human capacity, and the nature as well
as purpose of schools. In the brink of the 21st
century, what civilization is dawning? If the
premise of Universal Giftedness that the Integrative
Learning System asserts is achievable, what would
society look like?
These
are brave new world questions that every educator
faces.
