primary and academic secondary schools in Sabah
                    and Sarawak.
Methodology: 1. Instrumentation- The instruments used in the
                    study are questionaires, unstructured checklists
for one-to-one interviews, group discussions and
observations. 2) Procedure of the study: The
study was carried out in three stages: the
                    preliminary investigation, the training session
and finally the actual study. 3) Data processing:
Three main types of data were collected. Those
related to; a) Socio-economic factors and
                    demographic trends. b) Education-these include
the number of schools in each districts,
ownership of the land and school building, and
                    educational administration and development. c)
School factors-these include basic data about
each school. 4) Analysis of data: The data was
analysed based on the objectives of the study.
The enrolment, class size and other relevant
factors such as transportation, number of
teachers and physical faclities in schools over
the last five years (1981-1986) were analysed. 5)
Mapwork: State maps of Sabah and Sarawak showing
                    economic activities, transports, population
density, relief and migration trends were
prepared. Two maps of each districts in the two
states were also prepared showing the location of
existing primary and academic secondary schools
and also the proposed new schools of both levels.
