Objectives: The rationale of the New Primary School
Curriculum is that the primary school should
provide basic education. In view of this, the
aims of the primary school curriculum focus on
ensuring that the overall development of pupils
                    takes place. Overall development include
                    intellectual, spiritual, physical and emotional
development as well as the development of talents
and the fostering of moral, aesthetic and social
values. This curriculum ensures that every pupil
acquires the necessary skills, knowledge, values
and attitudes. Encouragement and guidance are
given to every pupil to master the basic skills.
In addition, opportunities are provided to enable
pupils to develop their talents, interests and
                    creativity.
Background: In Malaysia the prerequisite for the achievement
of national identity is national unity which is
developed through various economic and social
means. Education plays an important role in
                    achieving national unity for national
development. The Razak Report (!956) proposed
that, national unity be achieved through a common
system of education. The National Education
Policy in this country based on the Razak Report
(1956) and the Rahman talib Report (1960). These
reports formed the bases of the Education
Ordinance (1957) and The Education Act(1961)
respectively. The national education policy aims
to strengthen national unity through a system of
education for all, with common content syllabuses
and the use of Bahasa Malaysia (the National
Language) as the main medium of instruction.
Expected Outcomes: This curriculum ensures that every pupil acquires
the necessary skills, knowledge, values and
                    attitudes.
Results to Date: The curriculum has been succesfully implemented.
