Objectives: The objective of this project is to deliver basic
knowledge and useful skills in the occupational
arts and to develop positive attitudes of the
rural community towards the enhancement of their
community life system.
Methodology: The project covers three phases. In the first
phase, which cover the duration of eighteen
months from May 1980 to October 1981, a
preliminary research survey was conducted. This
intensive study was to obtain basic data and
relevant information on the socio-economic
conditions and socio-cultural patterns of the
community of the village of Sungai Buluh in
Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. As a part of
the research survey, the expressed needs of the
community and their problems and aspiration were
identified.
Background: DELSILIFE is a major regional project of SEAMEO.
It is designed to develop and to provide
strategies, approaches and procedures in the
attempt to improve the quality of life of the
rural poor through the concept of self-reliance.
The project is educational in nature. The
overiding theme of project DELSILIFE is concerned
with change and development of the rural poor.
Nonethless the Philosophy of the project is
founded on the concept that change and
development of a rural community should be
inspired from within a well-defined and
coordinated educational intervention system.
Expected Outcomes: The outcomes of the first phase resulting in
drawing of a master plan for action in the second
phase that concentrate on implementing of various
pilot educational-oriented community programmes.
