Abstract: As the result of classroom observations of
teaching and learning Mathematics in the schools,
it was found that teachers did very little
                    practical activities, lacked teaching and
learning aids and some teachers were not
confident to teach certain topics in the
                    syllabus.
Objectives: i)To enhance the learning of Primary Mathematics
                    through practical approach. ii)To encourage
teachers to use and improvise teaching/learning
aids. iii)To increase teacher's confidence and to
eradicate the throught that mathematics is a
difficult subject to learn and to teach.
Methodology: School-base : three of four schools (maximum
number 18 teachers), one session, centred at the
school nearest to them. Practical activities on
one topic per session, of 2 1/2 hrs, in the
                    afternoon - pupils activities, activities
relating Maths, to Science, Languague, the
environment, Art, Games, the use of local and
                    waste materials and discussions.
Expected Outcomes: Teachers would be more confident in the various
approaches of teaching. Mathematics would be
more enjoyable and find and that pupils would be
                    enchanted by it.
Results to Date: Teachers had shown improvement in their teaching
approaches, felt more confident and pupils were
                    beginning to be more involved.
