Full text: 1. Mature students will be accepted at the Singapore
  Polytechnic from next year.

About 200 places will be set aside each year for students who have
the relevant work experience or previous vocational training.

  2. A FOUR-TERM system will replace the present three terms.

Instead of running from mid-June to early April, the school year
will start in July and end in early May.

This will allow students to go for vacational training in two
eight-week blocks, or one 15-week period, by combining the final
seven weeks of the second year with the eight-week vacation.

A further advantage of this new system is that teaching staff would
have two periods of eight weeks' duration to go for industrial
attachment, or other staff development activities.

  3. The appointment of adjunct staff as visiting consultants.

They would be drawn from both local and overseas industries, and
appointed on the basis of professional qualifications and relevant
  industrial experience.

These visiting staff would work a weekly average of 2-1/2 days, and
could also be asked to help with course development and advise on
  project work.

The adjunct staff scheme will help to enrich the quality of
teaching and keep students up to date with the latest developments
  in industry and commerce.

  4. The setting up of a Swiss-German section within firms to get
them to play a more active role in supporting institutional
  training.

  5. A CONTINUING education programme which will introduce German
language lessons for those working with Swiss and German firms,
  particularly Singapore Polytechnic graduates.

And since lessons would be conducted in the evening, current
  students can also attend.

The course will also be open to the public.
