With funding support from the UNESCO Participation Programme

Brunei Darussalam
- My School, My Home

“My School, My Home” is a campaign initiated by the Sayyidina Ali Secondary School. The campaign encourages community members to consider the school as their own. Members of the community are the tapped to help the school by serving as para-teachers. Campaigns, exhibits and seminars are among the existing school-community partnerships that proved to be very useful for both sectors. The community actively participates in school activities, donates hardware materials and, initiates sponsorship schemes like the giving of best student awards.

The active involvement of the community in the school affairs proved to be very beneficial. There is an obvious improvement in the teaching and learning practices in the school. School facilities are well-maintained. Needy students are given opportunities to continue studies to the tertiary level, and welfare benefits of school staff and students are well-financed. The school even plans to set up a community volunteer service (CVS) that will further encourage community members to lend their expertise for the school’s improvement.
