

10th SEAMEO INNOTECH International Conference
The Center will hold its 10th International Conference on November 15
- 17, 2006, with the theme, "Learning for Life - Creating Endless
Possibilities in Secondary Education." There will be three conference
strands, namely, (a) Revisiting Secondary Education, (b) Deconstructing
Secondary Education, and, (c) Reconnecting Secondary Education.

INNOTECH Celebrates Malaysia Day
SEAMEO INNOTECH celebrated Malaysia's 49th National Day on 31 August 2006 with a flag-raising ceremony. Training participants of the courses on personal effectiveness and on technology applications for textbooks, took part in the said event. They were joined by INNOTECH officials and staff, headed by Center Director Dr. Erlinda C. Pefianco. Representatives of each SEAMEO member country gave their messages while course participant Mr. Basirun Abdullah Hasim spoke on behalf of all the Malaysian course participants.
SEDF Course on Personal Effectiveness
The SEDF Course on Enhancing Personal Effectiveness will run from
23 August - 05 September 2006. Twenty-two secondary school principals
and education officers from the 11 member countries will join the
course as scholars of the Philippine government under the framework
of its International Commitment as a SEAMEO member. The course focus
is in line with the recommendations of the Center's Governing Board
during its 2005 meeting in Ho Chi Minh City and the training needs
assessment results from the validation of the Competency Framework
for Southeast Asian School Heads developed under the Center's LEARNTECH
eXCELS Project.
ICT Course for Malaysian Officials
ICT Course for Malaysian Officials. Officials of the Book Department of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia underwent training on technology applications for textbooks. Industry experts and practitioners were invited to handle sessions that exposed the Malaysian officials in the principles and practices of integrating ICT tools in textbooks and instructional materials development.

New DepEd Secretary Assumes Post
New DepEd Secretary Assumes Post. Congressman Jesli Lapus of Tarlac Province was appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the top post of the Philippine Department of Education and formally assumed leadership during turnover ceremonies held at the DepEd Central Office on July 28, 2006. Mr. Lapus hopes to address, among other things, the huge budgetary gap in DepEd and the urgent need for professional training of school administrators and teachers.
ICeXCELS Course Gears for Batch 3 Learners.
With the conclusion of the course offering for the Batch 2 learners, ICeXCELS gears for the third batch of learners. The one-day orientation includes a tutorial in the use of the iFLEX, the online learning management platform customized by the Center. The newly created Flexible Learning Solutions Unit under INNOTECH's Programs Office is in-charge with facilitating the said course.
