Prof. Dr. Heri Kuswanto is the Director of Talent Development for Research and Innovation at Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. A Professor of Statistics at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) with over two decades in higher education and research, he has contributed extensively to research capacity building, innovation, and evidence-based education policy.
In his current role, he leads national initiatives to strengthen research talent and innovation capacity within Indonesia’s higher education system, and is committed to regional collaboration and strategic engagement that advance educational innovation across Southeast Asia.
Throughout his career, Prof. Kuswanto has held several leadership positions at ITS, including Dean of the Interdisciplinary School of Management and Technology, Director of Graduate Program and Academic Development, and Head of the Postgraduate Statistics Program, alongside his role as Senior Researcher at its Center for Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change. He is Secretary General of the Indonesian Young Science Academy (ALMI) and a DAAD Research Ambassador, with his work recognised internationally through the Hitachi Global Asia Innovation Award and the UNESCO-ICEHEI Higher Education Digitalisation Pioneer Case Award.
He holds a doctorate in Statistics from Leibniz Hannover University, Germany, and postdoctoral training from Laval University, Canada.
