MANILA, Philippines — SEAMEO INNOTECH shared perspectives on the country’s energy transition during the 21st Annual Meeting and Scientific Convention of the Outstanding Young Scientists, Inc., held on 7 July 2026 at The Manila Hotel.

Representing the Centre, SEAMEO INNOTECH Centre Director Dr. Majah-Leah V. Ravago, an Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) 2016 awardee, served as one of the convention’s speakers. Her presentation explored how an economically efficient and well-managed energy transition can boost productivity, strengthen economic competitiveness, and support the country’s long-term development.

The presentation emphasized minimizing the total social costs of the energy transition by taking advantage of the declining costs of cleaner energy technologies and the falling costs of managing intermittency, while accounting for the full social costs of pollution, including its impacts on health and the environment.

Dr. Ravago also underscored that achieving affordable, reliable, and accessible energy for all requires sustained investments in STEM education to develop the scientists, engineers, and innovators who will help lead the country’s transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
