Abstract

This policy note examines how teachers’ interest and passion for teaching influence their motivation to remain in the profession across Southeast Asia. Drawing from findings of the Regional Teacher Motivation Study, the paper highlights the importance of supportive systems and enabling conditions — including professional development, mentoring and peer support, curriculum stability, and supportive school environments — in sustaining teachers’ interest and passion for teaching. The policy note presents evidence-based insights and policy recommendations for strengthening teacher motivation and supporting long-term education quality across the region.
