Investing in Southeast Asian Teachers: Supporting Professional Growth and Career Development to Sustain Motivation
This policy note examines how professional growth and career development influence teachers’ motivation to remain in the profession across Southeast Asia. Drawing on evidence from SEAMEO INNOTECH’s Teacher Motivation Study, it highlights the role of career advancement opportunities, promotion pathways, and support for graduate studies in sustaining teacher motivation. The note also presents policy options for Ministries of Education to strengthen teacher retention through structured career progression, transparent promotion systems, and institutional support for continuing professional development.
