SEAMEO INNOTECH convened a K-12 Integration Workshop on August 16 as it continues to assist the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) in pursuing the goals of Education for All. The Philippines is going through a major reform in its basic education to be at par with global standards by shifting to a 12-year basic education system from the former 10-year system.

The workshop was attended by education experts from Philippines universities and the DepEd. Australian Government Overseas Aid Program (AusAid) Senior Program Officer Ms. Leah Neri also graced the event. The workshop served to integrate the K-12 studies prepared by the Center and AusAid, in cooperation with DepEd. In the said studies, AusAid conducted a curriculum comparison for the Philippine Education Sector, while SEAMEO INNOTECH looked into the structure, content, duration, and adequacy of Philippine primary and secondary education. A concept note will be produced as output of the workshop, synthesizing the research findings and policy options for DepEd from the two studies. At the same time, it will guide policymakers in making concrete decisions in the implementation of K-12 reform. The group of education experts agreed to review the draft policy notes on August 20-30.The final policy note on K-12 is scheduled to be released by mid-September 2011.
