90 ALS Teachers Deep Dive into ALS Delivery and Management

25 September 2023 – 90 Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers from various parts in the Philippines, such as Iloilo City, Cebu City, and Tagbilaran City attended the ALS Delivery and Management Integration Session held on September 23 and 24, 2023 at the Courtyard Hotel in Iloilo City.

The event was organized by SEAMEO INNOTECH as part of its implementation of the ALS 2.0 online courses on ALS Delivery and Management. This event succeeded a previous integration session that took place at INNOTECH in Quezon City. In total, 461 ALS teachers have participated in the ALS Delivery and Management courses.

INNOTECH organized the integration session to reinforce the application of good practices, innovative strategies, and new learnings obtained by the participants throughout the run of the courses, which were from April 1 to August 30, 2023. Prior to this session, educators who participated in the event had previously completed a series of online and face-to-face learning activities offered by the Center to enhance capacity building for teachers. Through the Education Development Center (EDC) under USAID Opportunity 2.0, SEAMEO INNOTECH, in collaboration with the University of Southeastern Philippines, developed courses on ALS Delivery and Management. These online courses, created as part of the program, supplemented the learning activities.

Officers and personnel from the Philippine Department of Education Bureau of Alternative Education (DepEd BAE) also joined the teachers in this event. Each of the participants were guided by Flexible Learning Tutors (FLTs), who helped them fortify their learnings throughout the two-day event. Members of DepEd BAE also contributed their insights and addressed inquiries from the ALS teachers attending the integration session.

The integration session served as a platform for educators and officials to recognize their roles as field implementers of ALS, with Mr. Ernie Pamor of DepEd BAE emphasizing the importance of continuous learning for ALS teachers. Dr. Juan Robertino Macalde of SEAMEO INNOTECH Learning Development and Management Office (LDMO), on the other hand, highlighted the professional development opportunities made available to educators through their participation in the ALS 2.0 online courses.

INNOTECH will conduct the last ALS Delivery and Management Integration in Davao City following the conclusion of this event as part of its mission to enable the education community in Southeast Asia to effectively respond to current and emerging needs and concerns.
