INNOTECH forges partnership with Sumedang District Education Office

On 21 June 2022, SEAMEO INNOTECH formalizes its partnership with Sumedang District Education Office in West Java Indonesia. The partnership will allow the institutions to collaborate on programs and projects, specifically on capacity building programs for teachers and school heads. One of the projects on the line is the conduct of the Southeast Asian School Leadership Program (SEA-SLP) in the district.

Present in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony is Mrs. Wawat Karawati, one of the alumni of INNOTECH’s School Leadership Program. She was the one who linked INNOTECH with the Sumedang District Education Office for this partnership. Mrs. Karawati said that she wants other school leaders in Indonesia to experience the same learning experience she had in the School Leadership Program.

“The Philippines and Indonesia share a common goal of improving the quality of education in the country. And one of the ways to do this is through the capacity building of teachers and school heads. We hope that INNOTECH can work with Sumedang District, as well as other districts and provinces in Indonesia, to be able to help upgrade the capacity of teachers and school heads in the country,” Dr. Ramon C. Bacani, shared in his opening message.

Sumedang District Education Office supports the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of Indonesia in enhancing the nation’s intellectual capacity by developing the potential of learners so that they will become competent, creative, independent, democratic, and responsible citizens. They also provide support in school operations and exercise direct administrative supervision over schools.

“I hope that this cooperation will help in developing the education in Sumedang District, especially for school heads. We look forward to the continuous partnership with SEAMEO INNOTECH,” said Mr. Agus Wahidi, Head of Sumedang District Education Office, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Republic of Indonesia.

The conduct of the SEA-SLP in Sumedang District will not just capacitate the school heads in the district but will also capacitate the district itself in mounting similar programs. “The in-country program is one of the ways for the Center to transfer its successful learning solutions to our partners to reach and capacitate more school leaders,” said Dr. Sharon Joy Chao, Manager of the Learning Development and Management Office of INNOTECH, in her closing message.

Aside from the cooperation on capacity building, the MOU may also trigger knowledge sharing between the two institutions, collaboration on events and forums, exchange of experts, translation of publications and programs, and cooperation on research studies.

The MOU was signed by Dr. Ramon C. Bacani, Director of INNOTECH, and Mr. Agus Wahidi, Head of Sumedang District Education Office, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Republic of Indonesia. Signing as witnesses were Dr. Sharon Joy Chao, Manager of the Learning Development and Management Office of INNOTECH, and Mrs. Wawat Karawati, Supervisor at the Sumedang District Education Office. Also present in the signing ceremony were officers and staff from SEAMEO INNOTECH and Sumedang District Education Office.
