INNOTECH’s 67th Governing Board Meeting Highlights the Youth and Technology in Time for UN Day

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) member states and SEAMEO INNOTECH congregate in the annual 67th Governing Board (GB) Meeting in Cambodia from October 24 to 27, 2023.

Composed of officials and senior representatives from the Ministries of Education (MOEs), with the SEAMEO Secretariat Director and the INNOTECH Center Director as ex-officio members, this year’s meeting is held in time with the celebration of the United Nations (UN) Day on October 24. INNOTECH has been a constant collaborator with the organization’s agencies, such as UNESCO, UNDP and UNICEF.

SEAMEO INNOTECH Center Director Prof. Leonor Magtolis-Briones welcomed the officials and board members during the opening ceremony for the annual meeting. “This gathering marks a significant point in SEAMEO INNOTECH for it does not only gather its Board Members to meet and discuss the Center accomplishments and programs. It also provides an opportunity to foster collaborations and partnerships with all present today, a vision similar to the United Nations,” Briones stated.

Recently, the Center collaborated with UNICEF for the Youth Summit 2023. As part of the 67th GB meeting, the board members discussed operational strategies, endorsed initiatives, and set the stage for the future of education in Southeast Asia. With a focus on youth empowerment, the meeting aimed to understand, celebrate, and expand successful youth programs implemented by Ministries of Education across the region.

Furthermore, as part of the organization’s continuous mission to be at the forefront of providing innovative education solutions for the Southeast Asian region, the Center also believes that discussions on the impending development of technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), must be utilized. This foresight is in line with one of the agendas for this year’s UN Day.

As the world commemorates UN Day, SEAMEO INNOTECH reiterates its commitment to building a better future for every learner in Southeast Asia. The organization believes that by empowering the youth, embracing innovative practices, and fostering collaborations, a future where education becomes the foundation of a united and prosperous society will emerge.
